2025 CONFERENCE

Friday 14-Saturday 15 November, University of Abertay, Dundee, Scotland, UK

About The Event

Join us in Scotland's cultural centre for the most epic of European Open Data geo conferences. All the OpenStreetMap-related talks, activities, discussion groups, and posters you can handle. Dundee is described as giving you "jute, jam, and journalism" but nowadays has a thriving videogames industry. Visit the Royal Research Ship Discovery which took Captain Scott on his first voyage to the Antarctic, or the V&A Design Museum. Accommodation is good value, so stay for a few days either side and make a trip of it!

Travel

Dundee is located north of Edinburgh, on the coast where the River Tay meets the sea.

Trains

Edinburgh or Glasgow: There are regular trains to Dundee Railway Station from Edinburgh (Waverley) (1 hour 20 mins) and from Glasgow, which then continue into the highlands of Scotland. A few trains a day run direct from London Kings Cross (6 hours), but otherwise it is an easy change at Edinburgh.

London: UK long-distance trains need to be booked in advance. Tickets are generally available up to 27 weeks before travel. There will often be cheaper tickets if you buy them early. Try National Rail Enquiries, The Trainline, or RailEurope. You could take the Caledonian Sleeper and arrive bleary eyed on the day of the conference but it will not be much cheaper than travelling the day before and staying at a hotel.

Planes

Fly to Edinburgh Airport because Dundee Airport has very limited options. Then take the 'Fly Dundee' bus from immediately outside Edinburgh Airport to Dundee city centre. The buses are clearly branded. Tickets can be purchased in advance. If you are worried about flight delays getting to Edinburgh then we suggest booking a later bus ticket - if you land and get your baggage quicker then you can login and change to an earlier bus time.

..and automobiles

Dundee city is quite compact and for the conference it will likely be easy to walk between places. There is (currently) no Uber service. 2 local companies, City Taxis and Tele Taxis, have their own apps. There are taxi ranks at the side of the railway station, and at the Steeple Church. Any taxi you use should be licensed and have a taxi number on the side of the car. A 5-minute journey will cost approximately £6 to £8.

If you are staying further out from the city, or go to see other towns, the main bus companies are Xplore and Stagecoach.

Hotels

Dundee is well supplied with hotels (budget to luxury), B&Bs (Bed and breakfast guest houses), and rentals.

Prices are very good compared to elsewhere in the UK.

Check back later for recommendations and conference deals.

Sponsors

We will soon be seeking sponsors to support the event. Get in touch if you want to be informed when we have more details.
